Which T240 this review covers
CMXGRAM1130044 is the older 22 hp T240 specification reviewed here. Its former manufacturer product page described a Kohler 7000 twin-cylinder engine, 46-inch steel deck, foot-controlled hydrostatic transmission and 5-inch Turn Tight radius. The page is unavailable in the October 1 check. Those historical specifications do not establish current stock or every newer T240 package.
Match the complete model and rating labels on the offered mower. Do not transfer this engine, warranty or accessory specification to a similarly named T2400 or a different T240 revision. Use Craftsman’s manuals and warranty support to obtain the exact unit’s documents.
Measure the working route
A nominal 46-inch cutting deck is not the mower’s measured overall width. Check the actual discharge configuration, gates, turning space and storage opening. Leave access for inspection and maintenance rather than measuring only the parked footprint.
An open mowing route gives a wider deck room to work. Obstacles, narrow access and storage limits can make a smaller machine more convenient. These are planning observations, not timed comparisons or proof that this tractor is safer on slopes.
Before accepting a used mower
Confirm the model and engine, service history, included guards and accessories, and an appropriate inspection. Obtain the operating manual’s slope, towing, blade and maintenance limits. Familiar steering controls do not replace operator training or make a mower suitable for an inexperienced user without instruction.
Ask who can service the exact engine and tractor locally and whether needed parts remain available. Do not assume an original warranty transfers to used equipment, or that a low purchase price includes restoring worn blades, tires, belts or a battery.
Recommendation and limits
Consider a correctly identified unit when its condition, access, operating limits and service route fit your property. Skip an unidentified listing or a mower whose measured configuration cannot pass the gates and storage route. Compare another model by its own manual and complete price rather than by deck size alone.
This is a source-based buying analysis, not a hands-on mowing or durability test. We retained the older manufacturer specification and removed unsupported current-model, warranty and ease-of-training claims. Current price, stock and seller terms have not been established by this review.
