A humidifier adds water to the air; it does not collect workshop dust. Confirm the workshop problem

Record relative humidity with a hygrometer before buying. Damp stock, condensation or a water leak calls for moisture-source repair and appropriate ventilation, not added mist. Dry-feeling skin does not identify the cause of poor air quality.

Either choice needs a stable location suitable for a domestic appliance. Check the manual before placing it in a garage or workshop with unusual temperature, dust or chemical exposure. If those conditions exceed the intended use, neither is the right purchase.

Plan the working area before ordering

Draw the actual footprint on the bench or floor. Leave the specified clearances, an accessible water route and a cord path that does not cross cutting or walking areas. Do not point a nozzle at stored metal, wood stock, adhesives or a finishing project.

Choose output for the room that can actually be controlled. Open garage doors and uncontrolled drafts can make a portable humidity target impractical. Do not compensate by allowing wet surfaces near the appliance.

Compare the real running cost

For the ultrasonic model, budget for suitable water and cleaning. For the evaporative model, include the correct replacement wick. Compare delivered model prices rather than an accessory, refill or overseas-voltage listing with the same brand name.

Check humidity in more than one location. Back off if moisture accumulates on a cold window, tool surface or wall. Keep the unit clean according to the exact manual and do not leave stagnant water between uses. A large reservoir is not permission to skip water care.

Choose a humidifier only after the room needs added moisture and has a suitable placement. If the complaint is suspended dust, pursue dust collection and filtration instead; buying the wrong appliance adds cost without solving the exposure.
